Can you explain more about rate shopping in ShipStation?
Rate shopping in ShipStation is facilitated by the Rate Browser and the Rate Calculator. The Rate Browser allows viewing of estimated rates across multiple services and carriers to determine the best service for different shipments. It can also be used to create labels without creating an order. There are two ways to view rates with the Rate Browser: Toolbar Rate Browser and Shipment Rate Browser.
The Toolbar Rate Browser allows comparing rates based on Ship From and Ship To postal code, weight, package dimension, and service class. The Shipment Rate Browser, on the other hand, is used in the Configure Shipment Widget in the Orders tab or Order Details to view rates for a specific shipment. It returns rates from the carrier based on shipment details like Postal Codes for the Ship From and Ship To Addresses, Address type, Shipping Confirmation Type, Package Type, Weight, and Dimensions, and Service Class.
The default view is to browse rates by Carriers, which lets you choose a carrier and see only rates for that carrier’s services, starting with the lowest rate. The All Rates view lists all the rates for all of your connected carriers, starting with a recommended service and then displaying rates from least to most expensive. The Recommended label is assigned to the carrier and service that will provide a timely delivery at the best price, taking into consideration price, delivery time, tracking, and overall carrier rating.
The Rate Calculator in an order’s Shipping Sidebar allows comparing the rates between the postage providers connected to your ShipStation account, and their available services, for the order’s Ship From and Ship To address. Select a service in the Rate Calculator to apply it to the shipment when you’ve decided which service to use. The Rate Calculator assumes you are using the standard Package package type by default. If a different package type is selected in the Configure Shipment Widget, the Rate Calculator will retrieve rates for that package type instead. The carrier and service you selected will be set in the Configure Shipment Widget so you can proceed to create the label.
